Welcome to the Heart of Recovery: Meditation for Recovering People

This meeting is open to people with any addiction, from any 12-step program, or none, and to all those who consider themselves engaged in a process of recovery. We are not a substitute for any 12-step or other recovery program, merely an adjunct to them.

The Heart of Recovery is a group meeting focused on sharing support in a friendly and comfortable environment.

Our goal is to make Buddhist insights into attachment and addiction and the profound tool of meditation available to support your recovery program. In doing so, we draw on the wisdom of many traditions as well as our own shared experiences and insights.

Meeting format includes:

  • We begin with an opportunity to introduce ourselves.
(with or without disclosing our particular addiction, as you prefer.)

  • We practice sitting meditation for about 15 minutes.
(Newcomers can learn basic meditation techniques if desired.)
(Experienced meditators may discover new ways to deepen their current practice while supporting the group.)

  • We read and share from a dharma book related to addiction and recovery.
(We try to read slowly, taking time to reflect upon what we hear, allowing sharing during the course of the reading. We strive to become better listeners.)

  • We close by dedicating the merit.
