The Art of Being Human: Shambhala Training I " is the first program in the Way of Shambhala series. This mini-retreat provides instruction for sitting and walking meditation as a means to develop mindfulness in daily life.  It introduces the Shambhala path of courage and virtue in life.

This first Shambhala Training Weekend introduces the view that human beings, at the core, are fundamentally awake and good. By training in meditation, we learn to remember our natural wakefulness and relax into the freshness of the present moment, no matter what that moment may bring.

We'll discover that awakening to our goodness is not about escaping from the world we live in, but instead is about bringing our practice to every aspect of our lives: work, play, relationships, and more. It all begins with giving ourselves the opportunity to reconnect with our simple humanity — the ordinary experience of our five senses, our bodies and yes, even the crazy thoughts and emotions that cross our minds.

About the Weekend I:   The Art of Being Human, Shambhala Training 1 is designed for new meditators or those looking to reconnect with meditation practice. If you have ever tried to establish a regular meditation practice, you know how easily it can be derailed by life circumstances. At the Shambhala Center, we specialize in a path that integrates meditation into our life. We need a meditation practice that relates to thoughts, perceptions and strong emotions – as well as the unexpected chaos and stress life can bring.

Senior Shambhala teacher, Shastri Debbie Zarate will incorporate these teachings into the program’s talks and provide instructions for basic meditation practice including posture, relating to thoughts, and breathing techniques. She will be on hand to personally assist participants with one-on-one interviews and guided group meditation instruction.

The program Includes:
    •    Guided meditation practice.
    •    Mindfulness meditation talks.
    •    One-on-one meditation instruction.
    •    Body Awareness Exercises.
